A prominent Liverpool hotel has closed a flagship restaurant over public health issues.
City council inspectors found evidence of mouse droppings in the kitchen at the 30 James Street Hotel.
Staff told diners at the swish Carpathia Restaurant to finish their drinks and leave, but no explanation was given.
A Liverpool Council spokesman said that it was recommended that the venue should close so that hygiene issues could be resolved.
In the near future the council will be re-inspecting the restaurant and property for possibility of reopening.
Signature Living, the operating company, confirmed its restaurant will stay shut until further notice.
Multiple companies are run by Signature Living such as The White Star Line shipping company which was then turned into a boutique in 2014.
It’s unclear how long the closure will last and whether it will jeopardise weddings booked into the venue in the coming days.
