The Grand National Festival kicks off today (April 12th) and will continue until Saturday. Aintree station is directly opposite the racecourse, making it an ideal mode of transport for race-goers. To help those going to the event, Merseyrail have revealed a new temporary train timetable for services running too and from Aintree Station.
Trains from Liverpool Central, Moorfields, Sandhills and Aintree will run every seven and a half minutes, as opposed to the usual 15 minute service. Some trains will also bigger, doubling the amount of carriages to 6.
There will also be more staff working over the next four days to deal with the increased number of passengers. Sarah Sperring, spokeperson for Merseyrail said that many staff volunteer to be part of the “experiential activity” at Aintree station and want to support passengers with any travel advice or queries.
As well as the adaptation to train timetables, Merseyrail will provide entertainment for those attending the race. Music from Radio City will play for those arriving in Aintree and flip flops will be handed out after the events.
Sarah Sperring told MerseyDays that the train company “understands that they can often be part of the experience of a day at the races and we want local people and visitors to the region to have a memorable day, which is why we go to a lot of effort to create an enjoyable atmosphere at our station.”
Merseyrail encourage all passengers to travel safe and drink responsibility. Below are in-depth details about the train times so you can plan a safe trip.
